Taronga Zoo and Bondi Beach

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
We've been very busy exploring Sydney. We've learned to ride the subway, called the Train, and it's super easy to get around. We both bought Opal cards that allow us to ride the subway trains, the buses, and the ferries. We rode all three in our travels. Circular Quay is the transportation hub on Sydney Bay where you can see the Opera House, the famous Sydney Bridge and the huge cruise ship that might be in port on any given day. It's where the train stops and the ferry begins. We rode the train to Circular Quay and boarded the ferry for the short ride 12 minute ride across the bay to the Taronga Zoo. The Zoo is on an island in the bay and the animals have the most amazing views of Sydney and the harbor. It's a bit like an Alcatraz for animals! ;-) We saw lots of animals, a trained seal show, and had a great day walking around the zoo. Afterwards, we rode the ferry back to Sydney and walked around the historic area called The Rocks. This is the area first settled when the convicts were transported to Australia, named for the rock quarries dug out by the convicts.

Another day we visited Sydney's most famous beach, Bondi Beach . The weather has been beautiful here, even though it's a bit cooler than when we arrived and they are moving into their autumn season. We suntanned in the grassy Bondi Park, watched the surfers, and had a most delicious lunch. A train ride there and back was a breeze, reminding us how easy the public transport is in Sydney.

Enjoy the pics!
