One down and ten to go!!

We awoke in time for Sally and I to repack our cases (yet again!) then we enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before booking out of the hotel and walking across the road to the International Terminal in time to book in for our 11 .15 am flight. This trip we had booked our flights with Singapore Airlines as we wanted to experience travelling in an A380 aircraft with the added bonus for us being of the airline's reputation of being one of the world's safest.

Perhaps the words "looking forward to" is not quite the right terminology coming from someone who is a “reluctant” flyer however I was curious to see whether the A380 would also live up to its reputation of being a much quieter and smoother aircraft.

I can report the flight was indeed smoother and the aircraft was quieter and the crew were amazing in keeping us well fed and watered throughout the flight - therefore in my own way I did “enjoy” the experience a little more than I had on previous flights. However that didn't mean I wanted to stay in the air any longer than for the scheduled 8 hour flight!

Just prior to our ETA, the Pilot announced we had been placed in a holding pattern over Singapore due to severe thunderstorms and couldn’t land until it cleared . We endured this situation for over an hour causing my anxiety levels to take off and fill my head with irrational thoughts such as "do we have enough fuel to keep us flying" etc. Obviously we did have enough fuel and there was no need for panic as the flight crew landed the enormous big bird magnificently on what was a very rain drenched runway. (That’s 1 flight down and only 10 to go - but who’s counting!!)

After clearing immigration and customs our very patient transfer driver was still waiting with his "DENTON" sign in hand ready to load our luggage and transport us to the InterContinential Hotel where we happily accepted an upgrade for a small fee and headed to the Club Lounge for some much needed refreshments.

Fortunately for us, the shops in Singapore are open until late so we decided to wander through the adjoining shops to find an ATM to test that our new travelcards actually worked – mission accomplished we returned to the hotel to enjoy a good nights sleep in our very comfy beds.
