Wexford, County Wexford, Ireland

Today we are heading for Ferrycarrig in Wexford and plan to travel via Cobh in Cork but before departing we decided to have one last visit to Kinsales where we enjoyed coffee and soaked up a little more of the festival atmosphere provided by the many visitors enjoying the Sailing Championships .

We arrived at the Cobh Heritage Centre just in time for lunch. The Centre is dedicated to the towns history including the Irish migration as well as the sinking of the Titanic and Lisitania and the history of the famous White Star and Cunard ocean liners.

The town of Cobh has had three name changes since its inception - it's original name was Cove then in 1849 Queen Victoria first stepped on Irish soil so the town was renamed Queenstown. In 1920 the town reverted to its original name of Cove however this time in its Irish form hence Cobh was born.

At the time of the Titanic disaster the town was known as Queenstown therefore this name will forever be recorded in history for being the final port of call of the ill-fated Titanic before it sank on its maiden voyage on 11th April, 1912.
