Arrival in Australia!

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
We arrived in Melbourne about 10 AM on the 5th of March. As we are making our final turns for our landing at Melbourne, I note that the landscape is quite brown. We are told later that it is rather dry now in Australia.

What a madhouse at immigration! There were hundreds and hundreds of people going through immigration at the same time . We finally got through and a smiling Stephen Clark greeted us. Now we need to stay awake all through the day to have our days and nights turned around.

We went to a community of St. Andrews and to the St. Andrews pub for lunch. Lots of eucalyptus trees on the way out. We ask about kangaroos. He says we'll see some....and saw one on the side of the road killed by a car, most likely.

Elder Paul Vaughan was there to meet us and the four of us had a wonderful afternoon talking and discussing several interesting matters relating to the work of the Church and particularly in Australia. The spirit of the ministry is excellent and we look forward to a great visit and meetings with members and ministry alike.

Then to the Hill's home, our hosts while visiting here. Cathy is Peter Eddington's sister Her husband is Sean.

Bev and I go for a walk in their delightful Melbourne community called Box Hill . It's so nice to see the flowers and hear the sounds of birds and I think loud parrots. It's all so interesting and enjoyable for us.

Then  Bill and Rae Eddington who live about ten minutes from here stopped by. It was so wonderful to see them in their HOME environment. When Bill Eddington was on our Council of Elders he made about 30 trips from Australia to the United States and we visited with them often. It was good to see them in their home territory.

Then we had dinner with the Hills . A long day, but at dinner we had lots of laughter, stories and looking forward to the rest of this journey. Finally sleep....first time to bed (Thursday night) since going to bed in Cincinnati Monday night....
