Next Stop: North Pole

This is the story of our 2023 winter journey from our home country of Australia to the far polar regions of the north-western Arctic where we travelled to Svalbard, Faroe Islands, Iceland and finally to our main destination of Greenland. For most of our journey, our travels were close to, or within the Arctic Circle – around a latitude of 66.6° north. We journeyed to an array of climatically, geographically and demographically diverse destinations from the ultra-remote polar islands of Svalbard to the imposing and breathtakingly stark lands of Faroe Islands, through the volcanic, volatile and tectonically fragile regions of Iceland to the pristine, little-trodden lands of the magnificent ice-capped island of Greenland. Our travels to Svalbard, the world's most northern inhabited settlement, took us further north than we have ever travelled – to a mere 930 km south of the most northern polar region. Yes, next stop: the North Pole! Over the past years, our journeys have included more than their fair share of adventures, thrills and in some instances downright dangers - whether it be climatically, geographically or even at times, politically related. But nothing could have prepared us for the improbable trials and tribulations “of another kind” we were to endure on this journey. Challenges we could never have foreseen....
