The Berber museum

Agadir, Souss-Massa-Draa, Morocco
A difficult choice today: do we sit in the sun? Walk down the prom to the south? Walk to the north or go to the museum of Berber life? After yesterday’s trip through Berber country, it was actually an easy decision: the museum won.
Off we strolled with map in hand via roads & little alleyways - and arrived 30 mins later to find it shut for 2 hours for “eating & praying”! We returned to the hotel by a quicker way (R’s term) & arrived 35 mins later....

After lunch we went back in a taxi - the small orange ones are all clapped-out Peugeots & ours was a 30 yr old on its 4th engine, but at £1.60 we weren’t complaining! The museum is a new building but filled with antiquities of Berber culture. It was very interesting & we got a private tour by a very enthusiastic chap with good English & very bad BO!
Berber jewellery is lovely, using silver (mined locally) and sometimes beads. The shapes involved are all symbolic and the more intricate the work and the more beads it has, the more affluent the owner was. Different styles reflect different tribes so you could always tell who the owner was just by looking at his or her jewellery.
There were carpets too, with the patterns again signifying the area, wealth and status of the owner, also examples of pottery and other household goods - no photos allowed though so today’s selection is from Google & a few random promenade ones..

A stroll back down the prom & here we are for aperitifs....I do love All Inc!
