After a relaxing start to the morning we headed back to the Back O'Bourke Exhibition Centre to see Paul Clarkson's Outback Show at 11am. We weren't sure what to expect as it is advertised as a "very entertaining stockman style show with horses, working dogs, sheep and special cast members". But indeed this hour long show was very entertaining, with Paul demonstrating great skills in conjunction with his horses and dogs, while telling background stories about them.
The "special cast members" turned out to be a member of the audience who impersonated a steer to show how the horse was used in mustering cattle and another who participated in a whip cracking display.
After lunch we walked around 1km from Kidman Camp to the bank of the Darling River where the PV Jandra was moored ready for 2pm departure. The PV Jandra is a replica paddle vessel built locally by the Mansell family in 2000. It is now owned by the Bourke Shire Council and operates a one hour long cruise daily.
We cruised down towards Bourke, going under the historic North Bourke Bridge before returning to the mooring near Kidman Camp, all the while being told interesting stories and facts about the river and surrounding areas. There was quite a lot of bird life and in fact we've noticed quite a lot of different bird calls we've not heard before, but most of the birds are well camouflaged in their surroundings and can't be seen.
In our brief time in Bourke we've learned a lot about this area and the Henry Lawson quotation on the wall of the Back O'Bourke Exhibition Centre "If you know Bourke you know Australia", says it all.
A bit of grocery shopping and topping the car up with fuel completed our day. Dinner was chicken schnitzels with spinach, ricotta & parmesan rice.
