Train in a half-hour late, so while we didn't gain any time back, we didn't lose any more, either. We checked our bags to Chicago (except for little overnight bags we will need on the train) and headed to the Club Acela. This is a fancy schmantzy waiting lounge for people who shell out for first class or a sleeper (we have the latter). Very comfortable seats and free snacks and drinks. An escort to the train when they announce it. Locked door--you have to show your ticket to get in. La di da. The snacks, of course, are carb-filled stuff I can't eat, but I bought some fruit at Au Bon Pain and ate it in la di da comfort.
Next stop, Chicago. We're due in about 8:30 tomorrow morning, and then we have a long layover (until about 2:00) for the train to Minneapolis.

DC's Union Station! It's a destination in itself, isn't it. But hyper-dangerous for me. It has a Montblanc shop (!) and Neuhaus Chocolate shop (Belgium's finest) and even a Pret à Manger (shades of London, that has two in every block). And across the street is the National Postal Museum--a hugely overlooked treasure. And it's all a 15-minute walk from the Folger Shakespeare Library. (sing along:) who could ask for anything more..

I managed to skip the chocolate shop and didn't see Montblanc. The Pret à Manger is closed--looks to me like permanently. It is a great station, though!
