Thursday 20th August 2020: Today we are meeting Doug and Vic Fong for morning coffee at The Green Mango Café. We take the van in as we have to move to another spot in the park and this time we are going to be nice and close to M&M. Vic was in the same year as John at High School and also went to John Frewer Hostel as he was a Broome boy. This was our first contact since those school days and didn’t we have some memories to share. Doug is 6 years older, but seemed to know who we were talking about all the time. They have both gravitated back to Broome after having careers elsewhere in the State. Doug as a teacher and Principal and Vic in hospital administration. Vic came back to Broome a few years ago to help look after his aging mother who passed away in April at the age of 102. It comes out as we talk that they own the building we are sitting at and the next door shop which is a dress shop – both leased – and they live at the back and top of each. According to the internet, Doug is a real historian of Broome – they are both low-key but certainly have their finger on the pulse. Vic has a grand-daughter at Shenton College - in year 12, Christine. With so much chatter, I forgot to take a photo, but John has found this on the internet which would be a couple of years old. Vic is on the left, Doug and his sister at the back. 4 generation photo.
The Fish-man is calling at the park today, so we are having fresh fish with M&M tonight – Mark is a whiz on the Baby Q.
