Agios Georgios Nilias, Thessaly, Greece

The Beauty of Eastern Pelion –

The villages of Agios Vlasios, Pinakates and Agios Georgios are not far from where we stay so we thought to drive out there this morning . What I actually plan to do is to find the opportunity to walk and cover some km. We buy our selves a newspaper, and we drive off. We pass Agios Vlasios and Pinakates, two beautiful villages with mansions and several guesthouses, but the way up to Agios Georgios is even more interesting. There is much more greenery now and there are all kinds of sounds and buzzing in the air that if you are in the car you cannot hear them. So, I am off the car and out walking only to feel all these. There is a gurgling stream below very close to where I walk and this makes the walk even more interesting. (Watch the video to see what I mean.)

The village is built amphitheatrically on two ridges. By the time I reach the village I am already tired, Yianni has read half of the Newspaper and I don't intend to get further in the village. We park the car close to the church and I just check to see if it is open. I find the doors closed though since it is already noon and the priest has gone home. In the place where this church stands today there was a very old church which was destroyed 59 years ago by an earthquake.

MUSEUM: Several pieces of art of the sculptor Nicola are to be found in the manor by the square of the village. They are here since 1992. The phone is +30 24280 93100 and the Museum remains open from May until November.
