We headed to the airport for our flight Dubai - Perth in plenty of time. On checking in, we were told the flight was full and Avan, who was traveling on a staff discount ticket (being Ebony's Father) could not be allocated a seat and would be on a standby list. 

Well of course Ebony had always been told this can be an issue but this was the first time we had been impacted. The check in officer said Avan would probably get on at the last minute so best to check our backpacks in so when/if he had to get to the gate quickly he could. I was on a normal ticket so really had to go regardless. Avan had to wait by the staff tickets office in the hope that right at the end he would get a boarding pass. 

The flight remained full and Avan didn't get his boarding pass but now, thanks to the fact that we were advised to check both bags in, he has no clothes or toiletries!

Luckily, he was able to get a flight 12 hours later and we were reunited again. Just felt like another travel adventure!

Back in Perth, we got busy organizing visas for China and Russia and booking tours for the next world travel we were planning to do. We had our round the world tickets on Qantas Frequent Flier points with the first flight being Perth - Tokyo.

Days before we were due to fly out, Japan was hit by the Earthquake and Tsunami and Qantas cancelled flights to Tokyo. Qantas advised we had 24 hours to decide on our itinerary change.. 

So Japan was off the itinerary and South Korea was on.
