Back to Pokhara

Pokhara, Western Region, Nepal
The flight from Jomsom to Pokhara was a bit hasslesome. We went in good time to the airport, and were immediately ordered about. We were told to check our bags in, then to take them as hand luggage, though we couldn't take the walking pole on board. Without them telling us, we were bumped onto another, earlier, plane. Security was a tiny room with a security person who went meticulously through all of our belongings. Ken had a couple of minor things confiscated and was told to put his bag through to check in anyway, and then the security person denied that he had Ken's boarding card when he clearly did on the table in front of him. Eventually, all was resolved, and we were allowed through to departures.

Our plane was tiny and we were crammed in . Jayna's hand luggage of everything she'd been carrying around for eight days didn't help. However, the scenery from the plane was awesome. The planes have to leave early in the morning, before the wind starts. The planes also cannot fly higher than the mountains, so have to follow the lay of the valley. So we got to see some pretty spectacular mountainous terrain from the plane. The highlight was flying past the walkway to Poon Hill - below the top of Poon Hill at 3210 metres, but above Ghorepani at nearly 2900 metres. We recognised the landmarks straight away and it was interesting seeing the path we took from another vantage point.

We landed at Pokhara airport, swiftly collected our belongings, dodged the taxi drivers and walked the two kilometres or so to our hotel. This was absolutely no problem after hiking in the mountains for several days!

The hotel owners were delighted to see us, and we gave them a gift of the bag of green apples we'd picked up from Jomsom. We had the same room again, and set about re-packing all of our luggage again. And wearing clean clothes! Pure luxury.

We had a lazy morning and afternoon in the hotel, with both of us fitting in naps, as well as internet time and lunch. We booked onto a bus for our next destination the following day, and did a little organising and planning of activities.

We ate lunch and dinner at our favourite Pokhara veggie restaurant, even braving the chocolate momos for dessert. They were strange.

After a relaxed day, we slept well and prepared ourselves for the next destination - Chitwan National Park!
