It’s been a busy couple of months so we’ve been enjoying this three day sojourn on the Algarve Coast. We’d booked a two bedroom unit in Quarteira and were delighted to find it just perfect for a short R&R break. Neither of us are the lie on the sand and bake in the sun type of girls so our shaded balcony has been lovely. The Algarve Coast is a very popular holiday destination for the rest of Europe. It seems thousands have arrived here already but we’re told it’s not the high season yet so I guess they’re expecting thousands more.
The temperature here is a bit too high for our comfort. It was 41° when we got back in the car the other day but thankfully we haven’t experienced that temperature again. It is around 36° most days though. We stay inside in the air conditioning through the heat of the day only coming out after 6 when the sun starts to lose its power. The evenings are a lovely temperature and we’ve spent the last two sitting outside around our table on the balcony.
Sheila has a Newfie friend living here, Mildred. Mildred is married to Lionel who was born in Portugal so they have the lovely lifestyle of spending half their time in Canada and half in Portugal, the best of both worlds. Enid and Howard are also here so it was a Newfie reunion last night. Sheila, Mildred and Enid all taught together in Labrador City many moons ago. Lionel and Howard were also working there at the time so they had lots to reminisce about. Loulé is Lionel’s hometown. It’s about 20 minutes from Quartiera where we’re staying. They all had to get together last night because Lionel and Mildred are off to Lisbon today. They’re mad keen football (soccer) fans and Portugal is playing Bosnia in the European Championship Qualifying Playoffs tonight in Lisbon.
On our way here from Morena we drove further down the coast to see the coastline around Lagos. Spectacular rock formations. It’s a beautiful coastline. That’s where we experienced the 41°! There were lots of roadworks going on with new boardwalks being built along the coastline, I assume to preserve the fragile cliff edge. We loved seeing the coastline but we were happy to leave the chaos behind us.
We’ve done very little for the last three days. The occasional walk, a bit of market shopping and socialising. Enid and Howard went for a dip in the ocean and report it to be chilly but very refreshing.
Tomorrow is our last day with the car. We’ll be driving to Seville to drop it off.

What a well-deserved and restful break ! Enjoy the socialising and hopefully great food and wine. Seville is a beautiful city - I loved it ! The elevated boardwalk/ platform/ lookout in the centre of town is a treat! And of course, the tower, cathedral and palaces are spectacular. Enjoy . XXX
