A Long Day On The Oregon Trail

Casper, Wyoming, United States
Now I know how the people on the wagon trains felt. By the time we got to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, we were out of food and water and the oxen were shot, so I traded Patty for two healthy oxen and set out for Oregon. I figured she would be just as happy as a maid at the Fort.

Our first stop on the trail was to see Courthouse Rock and Jailhouse Rock - so called because they look like a courthouse and jail respectively . Next we came to Chimney Rock or as the Native Americans called it, "elk's penis."  The third stop of the day was Scottsbluff National Monument. Took a lot of great photos here. We had the option to hike to the top or drive to the top - the drive was a blast. Great views for miles around. It seems that Scott was a fur trader whose friends abandoned him and left him to die on the bluff. Our final stop was Fort Laramie where the wagon trains would stop to resupply for the final two thirds of their journey on the Oregon Trail. The fort provided opportunities for the locals (Native Americans) to trade thieir furs for the cool trinkets that the settlers brought from the East.

Tomorrow, its on the the Grand Tetons. I wonder why they call them that?

You took the part of the same route we did a few years ago. Thar were snkaes up on the top of the bluff. Hope Casper was "friendly" to you.

You better get thru the Tetons and Jellystone next.
