Cadillac Ranch

Wichita Falls, Texas, United States
Great trip across North Texas. I love this place. Wide open spaces with not a tree in sight. Made a stop at the Cadillac Ranch along old Route 66. This is a legendary roadside America destination and there were probably 40 or 50 people around with more cars and even buses coming all the time. The Cadillacs have greatly deterioratedover the years, but are still worth a stop. The one drawback is the disgusting people that have trashed the sight. People just toss their spray paint cans, drink cans, and trash on the ground. It really shows disrespect by the general public.

Our next stop was the best rest area in America on U .S. Route 287 between Amarillo and Wichita Falls. It is a cross between a museum and a mini-park. Also along Route 287 is the town of Memphis. I really like Memphis because of its extensive use of red brick streets around the county courthouse. It is also striking because of its total lack of human activity. It is the closest you will come to an occupied ghost town.
