Mariental, Namibia
It's early morning, we're all packed up, caffeinated and ready to rock n roll for some more free bush massage until we hit the B1 main road south, enroute to Mariental . First we had to pull into Windhoek - a new look-see for the Kellys!
Lisa and Wessels were meeting us for a late Mugg & Bean breakfast at a swanky shopping mall. Lisa, Irene & Rod Delany's daughter and son-in-law Wessels, have settled nicely into the growing Capital of Namibia, albeit a very dry and dusty town. Great to catch up with them and follow their progress in Namibia and hope to see them in Knysna in Dec when you visit the folks.
The campers were very chuffed to be back in circulation and we gals hid our chipped nails, cracked heels and scaly dry skin under our winter attire but nothing we could do about our unruly hair. Yours truly had to finger dry her hair under warm African skies. No such thing as a hairdryer or mirror in my trailer!
Buying an ice cream in the bush was exciting, imagine half an hour to bend the plastic in this upmarket mall and boy did we do justice to that meager 30 minutes, guys included - they found a camping shop!
Gondwana Collection & Resorts have recently given Kalahari Anib Lodge a big makeover so we were most impressed with this one-night stop over situated 25 kms off the B1 in central Kalahari . It also helped being a card holder of Gondwana so we all got a 40% discount on the room rate.
The earthy woods and color scheme reflect the warm hues of the late afternoon sun on the landscape and the large open spaces of this sprawling resort can cater for locals and discerning international tourists. Huge comfy beds with mosquito netting and fixtures and fittings of top quality with great buffet dinner and a well stocked curio gift shop, would bring us back to stay here again if needs be.
Spending our last night together over a decent buffet dinner was rather sad - but good things always come to an end and with not an awkward moment between us other than good banter, teasing and juggling the 'Mampara' trophy, we wished them well on their journey to Richtersveld.
After a leisurely breakfast we headed to Fish River Canyon - another bucket list destination we Kellys' needed to tick off!!
