Sofia Archaeological Museum of History

Sofia, Bulgaria

Since the entire city centre was a military camp with lines of police standing shoulder to shoulder and linking arms on every street I was a big target walking around with a camera so I wanted to get out of the way.

When I saw the Turkish baths (which I didn't know they had one in Sofia) it was actually the archaeological museum so I went in to get away from all the police

Later I read this wasn't the baths but actually the Grand Mosque. Entrance was 8 Lev ($5.50) and had lots of Roman sculptures.

The upper terrace had Byzantine Christian art. The museum was actually bigger than the original Mosque as extensions had been added linking it to adjacent modern buildings with extra galleries.

There was a section with gold and some battler armour. It was a nice way to spend half an hour and to get away from all the police.
