Drottningholm Palace

Stockholm, Stockholm, Sweden

Today was the May 1 holiday on Friday, my last day in Stockholm and the last full day of my trip. I had planned on visiting the Drottningholm Palace outside the city centre which I didnt visit on my last trip.

The website says its only open Fridays in low season but starting May 1 it was open daily for the summer season. It also said it was open on the May 1 holiday.

First I had to take the metro out to Brommaplan station, from where it was a short 2km bus ride which was all included in my tourist pass along with Palace admission. There is also a ferry that comes here in summer season.

At first I couldnt find the way in and thought it was in fact closed for the holiday. It had an impressive marble interior stairway.

The interior was impressive with giant wall canvasses. Some rooms had the art painted directly on the walls and also the ceilings.

An interesting hall was the Gallery of European Monarchs. They had portraits of all the contemporary reigning Monarchs from a young Queen Victoria, to the Greek Prince, and Turkish Sultan.

Outside was also a young sentry and some soldiers probably doing their national service.

Nice blogs Asif. I bet you won't want to see another museum for a while.
