We returned to the campsite near Beynac where we had stayed for 8 days in March. This time we were only here for an overnight so that we could go to the Sarlat market again with Mom and James. We arrived quite late since it was a long day of driving and we had made two other stops in the morning. Nevertheless we headed in to Beynac for a walk around and to look at the menus in case something tempted us. It was wonderful to be visiting it again because this time all the flowers were in bloom. The roses were just incredible and looked lovely against the stone walls. We had a great walk, but didn't find any tempting menus. We headed back to camp, all of us quite hungry and made a very quick dinner.

The next day we packed up camp and headed to the Sarlat market for the third time. We were quite excited for Mom and James to see the market since neither of them had been before and they both enjoy them. We were amazed as we drove through town to see how many more vendors were there as opposed to when we had visited in March. We found a spot to park with the other camper vans and tour buses as the height wasn’t posted on the car lot. Then we set off to see the food portion of the market together; once we knew what Mom and James wanted to pick up we split up so Anoop and I could do the shopping while they started off with the other portion of the market.   We found all sorts of things to pick up – cured duck sausage, mini snacking cured sausage, strawberries, nut cake, lettuce, bread, melons, tomme d’ortie cheese… It was lots of fun picking up such a variety of snacks to enjoy since there were four of us to eat it a bit faster. We also learned that the tomme d’ortie cheese that we like so much is made with stinging nettles! Anoop and I headed back to the car to drop off all the food and noticed that the lot had filled up considerably and we were now blocked in by tour buses. Luckily we weren’t planning on leaving any time soon and figured they would be gone by the time we got back.

We met back up at our appointed meeting time and headed over to the restaurant where Anoop and I had enjoyed such a tasty lunch last time. We all ordered a different menu since there was quite a bit of choice. Anoop, Mom and James all had variations around foie gras, cured duck breast, rillettes and a salad while I just stuck to the salad. For the main course everyone had the duck confit with a mushroom sauce and potatoes sarladaises. I went for something completely different and got mushroom ravioli which was just delicious. For dessert we all had the walnut cake with crème anglaise except for James who branched out and tried the goat cheese with honey. None of us were too eager to sample his selection! We all topped it off with a delicious café au lait before returning to the market.

The food portion of the market had been packed up so we had better views of the buildings without all the people in front of them. We showed Mom and James some of the buildings that we had seen on our walking tour in March before we split up again for one last look in the market. We headed back to the car with lots of bags, glad that we had been able to visit the market one more time. We then continued on our way to St. Cirq Lapopie and enjoyed the scenic drive along the river with the overhanging cliffs.
