Darwin: Howard Springs & Doctor’s Gully

Monday, August 17, 2020
Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
After a yummy breakfast in the restaurant downstairs, Michael, Gretl & Nola enjoyed a swim in the hotel swimming pool which we had to ourselves. I think most of the other guests here are in quarantine!
Michael fetched our car from the free park he had found the night before — a good 5-minute walk from the hotel — and we then drove half an hour or so to Howard Springs — the water quality here is now so bad (not sure why) that you can’t swim in the natural pool any more. We did the 1.8km monsoon forest walk and then cooled down in the human-made wading pools.
Back in town, we parked at Woolies, bought a couple of items, and then walked for about 25 minutes to Doctor’s Gully for a fish-feeding experience at 4pm. Being seniors afforded Michael and me $5 discount each — there are at least a few benefits to getting older! Nola loved the experience of hand-feeding bread to the multitude of fish that swim here at high-tide. When the hour was over, we wandered back to Woolies where we bought supplies for dinner and then drove back to our hotel. Michael then took the car back to the free park before preparing dinner — chicken curry and rice, etc. Then off to bed — too tired to even start my travel blog!

An enjoyable and relaxing day. I received your message, Merrilly, that the subscribing instructions will be carried out this evening. Hi Debbie. Welcome aboard M&M's TravelArk trips. I thoroughly enjoy these yearly trips. The photos and the accompanying descriptions are always a brilliant feature. This ear, the travel adventure in the Northern Territory is also a relief from constant daily reports on the Coronavirus deadly menace.
