This time I can't skip the switchbacks entirely as I retrace my steps back up the mountain to the road I was in yesterday . I cutt straight through the oasis at the bottom of the valley and up the slopes on the other side, trying to be careful not to do to much damage as I clamber up the terraces. Here I’m come back through the village of Tissi which seemed very inhospitable last night. Now, shops are open people are friendly and helpful. I’m told that there’s a shortcut through the mountains if I want to go to Tafraoute, but it isn’t marked. I’m worried that I might end up back where I was yesterday and don’t want to take chances. I think I’ll stick to a predictable route today.

Tissi has some sort of flat space—but not densely cultivated as Tanalt. Then the switchbacks start again, as the road winds down, down the mountain.
