The Adventure Begins!!

Niagara Falls, New York, United States
After breakfast this morning we set out on the first leg of our trip -- about a 300 mile drive from Michigan to Niagara Falls, ON, Canada. The trip was uneventful with two small exceptions. The first was our stop for lunch at one of the service centers along the 401 in Ontario. We had a great lunch of poutine from a fast food restaurant called "New York Fries". Pouting,in case you are not familiar with it, is a popular Canadian dish. It's basically French fries with cheese and gravy. The version we had for lunch (we shared just one serving) was fresh cut French fries with white cheese curds and beef braised in wine. It was delicious!

The second "event" was a "service engine soon" light that lighted on the dash of our car (a 2004 Cadillac DTS with more than 200,000 miles on it) . We had bought and brought along one of those diagnostic gadgets that mechanics use. Karl plugged it in and then I ran the diagnostics, recorded the error codes and erased them -- which turned out the light on the dash. This car has been having random errors that our mechanic is having trouble diagnosing, so we are trying to help.

We arrived at our hotel in Niagara Falls, ON before 3:00 PM. It took quite a while to check in because they hadn't assigned us to the type of room I had reserved -- a premier king-bedded jacuzzi room with a full view of the falls. First we didn't have the jacuzzi -- then the room didn't have the full falls view. The third room they tried to assign us wasn't clean yet. Finally, after 20 minutes or so, we got our room -- on the 20th floor, with a full view of both the Canadian and the American Falls, a king bed and a jacuzzi. The view from the room is fantastic!!!. I am sitting here, having a glass (or two) of wine and Niagara Falls is right there in front of me! I LOVE the view from this hotel. We have stayed here before and will again.

We were at Niagara Falls years ago in the winter when it was frozen, another kind of beauty. Always wanted to go back and ride Maid of the Mist. You are giving us ideas.
