Latchi Harbour, Cyprus
Today was our last day with the car, so we headed to the western end of the island. Coral Bay is the next resort from us but we’re quite glad we’re not staying there - it’s very Kiss Me Quick Hats & candy floss. so we just drove on through. We missed a turning (or two) and meandered through banana plantations with the crop mostly hanging in blue plastic bags & found a cliff with sea caves, in a district called....Sea Caves.

Further along however is a lovely little promontory called St George & we sat for a good while on a bench high above the marina, along with other Sunday morning strollers of our vintage. In the harbour below, yachts were being launched every few minutes & all headed out to the same spot of sea so we gathered it was the start of a race or regatta.

Onward to the west coast & up the peninsula to the Botanical Gardens & the famous Bath of Aphrodite....both extremely underwhelming, with the former having tired looking bushes with scruffy labels & the latter just being a small pool surrounded by a bit of a cave. Ah well, at least they were free! There were good views of Chrysochou Bay as well on the way back to the car.

We were going to stop in Latchi for lunch but couldn’t find anywhere that we liked the look of, so we drove up the coast, stopped at a small bakery on the way & had lunch of homemade pizza by a deserted beach. We HAD intended to have a swim, but a) it was very hot and there was no shade at all & b) the wind was quite strong & consequently the sea was quite rough - there were good views of the coastline backed by the Troodos Mountains though.
We headed back through the Troodos foothills & had a swim in our lovely pool before enjoying the spectacle of tonight’s sunset. Our balcony is a great setting for sunset watching, & even better with the added bonus of drinking the bubbly R got for his birthday. Tonight was Greek night in the restaurant & very nice it was too - but I'm not sure about the lurid colour of the various desserts....

Tonight was Karaoke night at the bar - a mixed blessing, with some quite reasonable singers (& some excruciating ones) plus a German guy who was deeply into heavy metal & shouted what sounded like expletives into the mic
. The company was great though - 2 Scottish couples who we’ve talked to through the week invited us to join them & much chatting & hilarity ensued.
