Horsham to Murray Bridge

Murray Bridge, South Australia, Australia
As we went to sleep the caravan was buffeted by continuous wind and it was surprising to wake to a still morning with a clear blue sky.
After packing up and a stop in Horsham for fuel, it was onward headed for Murray Bridge.
But the lure of the Wimmera Bakery at Nhill forced us to stop and unlike many places along the way, Nhill provides some specific parking places for caravans along with standard parking for cars in the median strip right in town.
After a nice cake with a mug of tea, Lucinda browsed in a patchwork and clothes shop while I looked at several monuments in the beautifully manicured grassed median. One of the monuments was to the draft horse which can be attributed doing much of the 'heavy lifting' in the early pioneering days of the area. Another monument recognised the role of the Nhill RAAF base during WWII where some 10000 servicemen were trained, particularly acknowledging a few who are buried in the local cemetery.
Lunch was at the Morning Loaf bakery in Keith. Part of the eat-in area was in a heritage listed building which decorated like an old diner. There was also an old church that had been taken over by the National Trust and had 12 stained glass windows installed to illustrate the area.
We arrived at the Avoca Dell (Murray Bridge) Caravan Park without incident, except for the return of some very strong (cross) winds as we approached Tailem Bend and we selected a site overlooking the Murray River - very pleasant.
After settling we took a drive into Murray Bridge for some supplies and a walk along the wharf area where we saw some interesting sights shown in the photos, including pelicans, decorative seats and of course 'The Bunyip'.
Dinner was lamb back straps cooked on the Weber Baby Q with a Greek salad, banana & ice-cream and a cup of tea & home made slice. Tomorrow it's off to Monarto Zoo.
