We slept last night with just a flat sheet over us on the bed, which we'd been doing for several nights, having discarded use of our doona when the temperatures increased during the later part of our trip. But this morning it became a bit chilly under the the crisp, clear sky to which we were awoken by the sound of birds nearby. However it felt quite refreshing not to be warm in the morning as it has been the last few days.
We'd left the van hitched to the Territory and so we were packed and ready to hit the road on our last leg of the journey
. On previous days when we'd been on the road at 10:30AEDT we had listened and sometimes joined the Albury/Wodonga net on 7.055MHz - net is an amateur radio term for on-air get-together. The net controller is Ron VK3MRH. So we took the opportunity of our last travel day to call in and thank Ron and the others for letting us join in. Listening to a group of radio amateurs talk about sometimes trivial matters was better than listening to the AM/FM radio stations with all of the bad news being broadcast.
Down the McIvor Highway through Heathcote and in no time we joined the Hume Highway amongst the heavy traffic it carries. Reality was hitting us that our adventure was nearing an end and we were back in the big smoke!
So after 3865km on the road and around 3000km of that with the caravan in tow, we were safely home. We'd suffered no major hiccups, had many enjoyable moments and continued our learning about caravan touring.
To complete the day we went to watch Diamond Valley's BigV State Championship Women's team play a practice game against the Queensland U20 team, who had just arrived in town ahead of next week's U20 national championships. Our daughter Allison plays in the Diamond Valley team, which our son in law Simon coaches.
We hope you've enjoyed reading about this adventure and now it's time to plan our next one, maybe overseas . . . . . Tasmania. Stay tuned for details . . .
