Last driving leg today: Las Cruces to Tucson, about 280 miles. Tim was driving, so I amused myself with the billboards and other signs along I-10, which is very long, and very straight, and on which the speed limit is 75 MPH. I have posted a selection of my viewing opportunities. It ain't Burma Shave ads, but some of them are still quite amusing.
We had lunch when we got to Tucson (at 75 MPH the trip only takes 4 hours), and then we spent the afternoon meandering around the Tucson Zoo. This is a very small zoo (24 acres), but it has quite a decent collection of animals, and a surprising number of them were out and about, given that we got there at 12:30 and were there through the hot part of the day (only 83, thank heavens!). Some of the animals we missed on the first pass turned up to be observed when we went by their enclosures another time to go pick up a section of the zoo we had missed. About the only animals we missed altogether were the Grizzly Bear and a Macaque. The photos are not wonderful--the enclosures are enclosed either with chain link fencing or with plexiglass, which has long since become cloudy and scratched or just plain dirty, but you can get the idea.
We had dinner at another of Tucson's top-rated Mexican restaurants, Little Mexico. They use shredded beef for their tacos etc., and it was delicious! Even though we both ordered a la carte, there was too much food. A common occurrence, we find, out here in the southwest.
Tomorrow we head home. There will be two quite short blogs just to document the stops for the map--Atlanta and then Richmond. We are due to land in Richmond at 11:55 p.m., so just before Tuesday ends!
