Shaowu, Fujian, China
Hey Hey and a Big G'Day toya

Here is the THIRD of the 'Uncle Shane Do You Eat Cats & Dogs & Bats & Frogs'
food entries.

Besides eating dogs, cats, rats and bats I manage to also sit down to a bowl or two of very normal food once in a while. Over the past week I've chosen my favourite little 'hole in the wall eateries' to sit at and take some happy snaps for my friends and family so they can see what I 'normally' eat during the week.

And not a health inspector in sight!

Over the past year and a bit that I've been living in Shaowu city I've managed to eat my way around most of the cities pokey little restaurants. These ones are very much at the top of my list for both their delicious food and the happy smiles from the owners and the people that eat there.

Most also seem to have less 'Bugs & Crawly Things' racing around the place.

TODAY

Today for lunch I headed to one of the tastiest places in town, especially if it is meat you are after. I call this place 'Melina's Eatery' as we used to meet up here for lunch once or twice a week so we could chat and she could practice her English. The sweet and sour pork here is awesome and the beef is so tender that it melts in your mouth.

The vegetables are also a delicious treat.

This type of eatery is known as Fast Food here in China. I have no idea what they call KFC, Mc Donald's or Pizza etc. To us it is pretty much a buffet but at home I would rarely eat from a buffet. Here the food turn over is almost instant so it is pretty much like it has been cooked for you and you only.

Very rarely does a dish sit for over five minutes, especially in the more popular eateries.

Simply point and pay and then you are free to eat as much rice and drink as much soup as you wish. I can't believe how many bowls of rice some of the Chinese men can down in the time it takes me to eat one along with finishing my dish of meat and vegetables.

But then they have been practicing since birth!

After my last class I decided on a huge walk instead of a bike ride so I headed out into the streets and made my way to Pagoda Hill. I then headed across the river and back down to the main bridge. This is where one of my favourite eateries is located for 'Beef Noodles'. It's just a tiny little eatery on a corner but it really does serve up one of the most delicious bowls of noodles you could ever want to eat.

Beef Noodles are my favourite noodle dish in the entire huge land of food that China is!

Sitting at the top of that is would be Lanzhou Noodles, but that will wait for another night. Tonight I wanted a different type of beef noodles, one not so heavy and with a different type of beef along with more of a kick with the spices.

The couple that runs the place are really cool and we sit and do our best to chat.

His beef noodles are much better than hers so after going there so often they pretty much know that he is to make my noodles unless she is the only one there. If she's the only one there it's not so bad as she is a real cutie!

Beers N Noodles full of creepy crawlies toya.....shane
