STOPOVER GHENT.

Ghent, Flanders, Belgium
Cloudy with occasional showers, (gee how unusual) 15-21 deg, 0km, 0km/h, tot. 1380km.
We would certainly prefer fine sunny days but not the case again today . At least the rain stayed away till after lunch; by then we had seen lots of Ghent. Not having been ravaged by war, there's lots and lots of really old stuff in Ghent. Many buildings date back to the 14th century and some as old as the 1100s. The oldest is now a restaurant on the canal, see photo. The Cloth Guild building and Belfry (1380) are located opposite our motel in a rather nice square. The canals, with all the flower boxes and the tour boats coming and going add a nice holiday feel to the city. It is so compact the whole old city area would be no bigger than a square kilometer or two but you could easily spend a week exploring it all.
Routine maintenance on the bikes and lounging around the motel in between showers was the order for the afternoon.
Dinner was Thai/Asian, yummy. After that we wander the back streets again and came across even more marvelous architecture.
We certainly enjoyed our lay-day in Ghent.

St Nics church, to us, is the most outstanding because if it's even more inspiring architecture. The actual photo is awesome and we vote it no.1 , so far, for the holiday wall in your lounge.
