Funchal, Madeira Islands, Portugal
FUNCHAL, PORTUGAL: HERE WE COME... After 8 days crossing the Atlantic, we were ready to set foot on land!

Even the funny hat man is glad to see land again after eight days at sea.

This island is lush with vegitation and is rightfully known as the Hawaii of Europe. We took a bus tour of the Island. Our guide is German, but she has been living on the Island for over 50 years.

Nelly overlooking from the top of Monte. Our ship can be seen in the far distance.
Jim on the steps of Our Lady of Monte. Nelly is in the next picture.

The opulance of the inside of Our Lady of Monte.

History shows that heads of state made this island their home.
After the ride down the mountain, the toboggans are loaded up again and driven up the mountain for another ride.

Once we were finally down from the mountains, we came across one of the local cemeteries.

Next, we went downtown where the flower festival had just taken place over the weekend.

Our tour was not over yet... not without visiting the local Madeira winery.
