The Greeks in Sicily

Taormina, Sicily, Italy
The hotel is in a great location with an unimpeded view of Mt Etna. Well it would be if the haze ever chose to lift. At best, you can only see a very faint outline of the volcano. However, I don't have the privilege of this view as the view from my room is that of a church - wouldn't you know it!

A free day today to explore on my own . I spent a very pleasant couple of hours at the Greek Amphitheatre in Taormina this morning. The amphitheatre is in a very good state of preservation and is still in use to this day. The panoramic views from here of Taormina, the bays and surrounding villages are spectacular.

I then spent a further couple of hours just wandering around Taormina, reacquainting myself with the fabulous artistic side of this town; popping into boutiques, art galleries and handcraft shops. At the end of the day I immersed myself in a café to people-watch and take in the atmosphere. I do love this town and could happily come back time and time again.

I bought the babies (Charlotte and Sebastian) a handmade doll each. Though not traditional to Sicily, they were too cute to resist and unique in that they are handmade.

While blogging this afternoon I thought I would give the hotel's coffee another go. It was just as disgusting as yesterday. I'm obviously a slow learner.

well that was a short note on the Greeks in Sicily. You might have to travel with your own coffee maker at the rate you are going.
