Next stop was the Gullfuss (Golden Waterfall). The rain was coming down heavy but that wouldn't have made any difference with all the mist from the falls.

There are three levels to the falls and they are quite majestic. I believe they were featured in the opening of the Alien Prequel movie Prometheus but I believe many other movies such as Lord of the Rings are also shot on Iceland due to its unearthly features.


































 
 
A few decades back was a plan to build a hydro dam but a local activist spearheaded a movement to save the falls. She is now celebrated in a monument by the falls.
 

 
We only had a brief 45 min stop, enough to climb down all the steps, take some rain soaked pics and head back. On a sunny day and if not so rushed you can enjoy it more and maybe see a rainbow in the mist. 
 

 
 
Then we all hung out in the souvenir shop to keep out of the rain.
