Rainy Welcome to Bergen

Bergen, Western Fjords, Norway
I'd arrived in Bergen just after lunch so had the whole day to explore but the rains were also starting to move in following me from my flight from Trondheim. I still needed lunch so was going to do some light exploring and continue on my full day in Bergen tomorrow.

My hotel is in the central district which leads thru the pedestrian shopping zone to the historic wharf area. There was a large tourist info office where I went to plan my next 2 days in Bergen

My immediate impression of Bergen was that it was like Nampodong Busan with the wharf area, fish market, mountain homes beside, and European shopping district. I'd seen Bergen on Korean travel shows while living in Korea

It seems a lot of places close Aug 31 for the season. The outdoor old town museum had already closed. The out of town places such as the Arabic styled Ole Bull house or traditional wood Stave Church had also closed down for the season. The musician Grieg's home was now only open Sundays.

Along the wharf is the touristy fish market. They had fried items, fish and chips and a fish curry. I opted for the curry as I need a warm meal in the rain. I hadn't had a cooked meal in the entire trip so far so I needed the energy.

It cost 160K ($32) but was worth it to energize me. Now the rain was lashing down so I just went back to the hotel to rest after another early morning flight.
