It was another hot night with the fan going until Michael arose some time after 6am. Although I hadn’t consumed any alcohol the night before (well, literally only a sip), I had a dull headache. I took a Panadol and didn’t venture outside until late in the morning. It was still hot, but a gentle breeze brought some relief and the promise of a slightly milder day.
We were delighted to find that an extensive open market had popped up just outside the Marche Couvert (covered market). Stalls were selling everything from rotisserie chickens (cooking in a mobile van) and fruit and veggies to souvenirs and clothing. We purchased some nectarines and peaches, and then Michael indulged in a wicked chocolate delight from the inside market.
Back ‘home’, I worked on my blog (the editing and uploading of photos are the most time-consuming parts of the process, and so it was great to have the time to get these things done. At about 3pm, I was awoken from my afternoon nap by the banging of the shutters outside our bedroom window — a storm was blowing in.
It wasn’t long before the rain started to fall and we had to batten down the hatches. The storm blew over quickly — it had brought much needed relief from the oppressing heat.
Late in the afternoon, we went out walking again. I was on a mission to buy some gifts for the girls and their children. Our meanderings took us back to the Monoprix where we bought some salad leaves to accompany the leftovers we planned to have for dinner. Temptation got the better of us, and a pattiserie store on the way back to our apartment lured us into buying a cheesecake and another chocolate cake (the latter being for Michael, of course. Michael returned ‘home’ ahead of me, as I wanted to check out the souvenir shops down the road. Mission complete (except that I still haven’t found anything to get for Oaki!), and I returned to the apartment.
Michael prepared a delicious meal using the leftovers with a fresh baguette and the salad leaves (we’re not exactly sure what sort of leaves they were!). We then nibbled on our cakes until they were all gone, and finished off the Cointreau with some orange juice so that Michael won’t have to carry an almost empty bottle with him when we travel to Dijon by train tomorrow.
Well, amazingly, that brings me up to date with my blog entries! It’s after 10pm — time to hit the sack.

Love going to local markets. Michael’s cake looks yummy, did he go for a longer run?

Michael has kept up with his morning jogs, and so, with all the extra walking we do, he has justified indulging in a variety of sweet treats here in France. They are certainly less expensive to buy than they would be at home. :-)

The title of this blog is aptly chosen, since you needed a relaxing day after all your packed site viewing days in Colmar. Selecting nectarines, peaches, chocolate delight and souvenirs from the covered and inside markets, a snooze and blog recording and picture selection with comments sounds just like a recovery program. Even the banging of bedroom shutters from a short storm awakening you from an afternoon slumber provides the background setting prior to an evening meal prepared by Michael.
