Today, we took the opportunity to sleep in after such a late night — midnight is really too late for us, being about 2 hours past our normal bed time! We enjoyed a late breakfast with Astrid and Micha before heading off in to town with Astrid to do some shopping. As I accidentally brought an unopened bottle of B3 tablets (which I take to reduce the chances of getting another basal cell carcinoma) instead of the bottle I had filled with enough tablets to last the whole trip, Astrid took me from one pharmacy to the next in an unsuccessful quest to find some.
The town of Baden-Baden is very pretty — Michael describes it as being like Disneyland, but real. After buying some supplies for our trip to Switzerland, we sat in an outdoor cafe under an umbrella for coffee/ice cream. Our timing couldn’t have been better, as it started to drizzle with rain — and we’d come unprepared! Shower over, we headed back home through the town, past the two public baths and the small church.
Unable to stay awake, Michael and I collapsed on our bed and dozed for a couple of hours. We finally emerged, not feeling much better, in time for dinner — another BBQ outside with Marianna & Bernhard. How amazing to have been able to enjoy two balmy evenings eating outdoors in Baden-Baden! It did start to rain later in the evening, and so we shifted everything indoors and finished off our meal with some streusel Michael had bought. With an early start planned for the morning, our curfew was 10pm — and we stuck to it!

Bad luck re lack of Wifi, I think we will have free Wifi in all our hotels when touring through Switzerland, Austria and Germany! Am quite interested in your comment about B3 and reducing your risk of BCC’s, I’ve had a few frozen off over the years, might look into it. Baden-Baden does indeed look very pretty, don’t think we go there though unfortunately. Looking forward to your next instalment! Xx

A good thing to have had a relatively restful day, as late nights can exhaust one, especially when embarked on viewing as much as possible in the time available. I have just had an unsuccessful cursory look for old documents of the name of the country hotel in which we stayed over night in 1983 on our travel from Munich to Karlsrhue. From memory, it was about 60kms from Karlsrhue and on about the same latitude as Baden-Baden, but on a different route through the Black Forest.
