Moving west from the Picos past Leon and onto Ponferrada. Now following Drive 2 -Along the Sacred Shore from Back Roads Spain. Along the River Sil towards Ourense

Chucking down with rain in Ponferrada. Parked up in a supermarket car park, designated camperstop with water and toilet empty facilities. Fridge door fell off but was able to make a repair helped by some friendly Spanish campers. Did look around the castle but it was very wet

Took Scamper up the Valle del Silencio from Ponferrada. The Back Roads book failed to mention that the road is narrow and twisty and probably not suited to campers. But we made it - just. At the head of this remote valley is Penalba de Santiago. Very old traditional village that has been restored but only lived in by residents during the summer. There were hardly any visitors or residents when we visited. Some of the cottages have been beautifully restored. Had a drink in the only bar/restaurant in the village. Discovered there was another road into the village so took that to get back to Ponferrada
