Canoeing in Laguna Canangueno

Cuyabeno, Ecuador
How amazingly different the rain forest is without the chatter of children or adults. Most of the other visitors left a day before we did. There is never silence but now we could enjoy the sounds of the animals that are so close by. Interesting, yet soothing at the same time. I did not at all miss the sound of "Alphonse, Alphonse".

On this day we went exploring through narrower rivers, in a canoe called a “quilla” without a motor . This was also a different kind of sound. It felt more truly like a rain forest adventure. Just the three of us, David, myself and the guide in the canoe paddling through a narrow river with thick vegetation on both sides. At times we needed to hold up tree branches to get through, other times to back track and try another way. This gave us a good opportunity to see more fauna and flora but it was the experience itself that was wonderful.

This was the day we saw many birds and monkeys and epiphytes flowering. It was an amazing experience.
