Two lovely days of sightseeing in Singapore

Singapore, Singapore
It was an earlier start today and as the driver on the 'Hop on Hop off bus' had sold us a ticket for 7 lines, we decided to take the Green line bus to Sentosa. Not a very long journey via Gardens by the Bay and the next stop was Sentosa. We did take the cable car to Sentosa in 1996, but it sure has changed a lot in 20 years.

We probably got sucked into purchasing a ticket for the Aquarium when we got off the bus, but we did say 'NO' to a ticket to Universal Studios. That can be another time maybe! So we did the Aquarium and the theme for October is 'Spooky Pirates'. There was a very good display on the Merchant Traders of Asia, so it wasn't all about fish. We did learn something of the silk trade in Asia. We also did see some very good fish tanks, like the eels and the one with jelly fish. I have to say that those two were better than Melbourne's Aquarium, but overall I thought Melbourne's was the winner! I took Nathaniel and Isabella to the Melbourne Aquarium in April 2015.

We headed towards the resort area and could imagine Dorothy and John and their family having a lovely few days here, celebrating Dorothy's 70th birthday in Singapore last year. It is actually Dorothy's birthday today. 'Happy birthday Dorothy'

By 12.30pm we decided we had seen enough, so we caught the Green line bus back to Gardens by the Bay and had lunch there. We filled in the rest of the afternoon taking in the beautiful gardens of the two magnificent domes. We decided to do the tour of the gardens by cart. It was only 8 dollars each and we would have spent hours finding our way around. It gave us a quick look in 25 minutes and provided us with info about the establishment of the gardens. We had the option then of getting off at the domes.

Nothing more to say about the two domes, than to say "They are breathtaking and the design and concept amazing"! I just clicked and clicked and clicked some more. So many beautiful flowers. I just want to start scrapbooking!

There was plenty of rumbling and a thunderstorm brewing! It was more over towards the city. Decisions, decisions! Would we walk back to where we knew and catch the green bus, or would we be adventurous and walk, to find our way to the front of the resort and the Marina Bay Shopping complex. From there we could catch either the red or the yellow bus. This we did and viewed whilst on foot, some more of the cities icons! Sometimes it is better to walk. We caught the yellow bus and hopped off at the 'City Hall' stop, which was just a short walk from the hotel. Our walk back took us past the historic church, which has been struck by lightning twice and been rebuilt. It is named the 'Armenian Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator' and it was built in 1835.

After a quick shower we walked into the shops again. Didn't do much but find our way back to one that we had made a purchase from on Sunday. They needed a passport number so the slip could be finalised, for us to claim back the GST. We might as well have that 20 dollars in our pocket.

Then back to the Raffles Hotel for a drink. We had thought we would also have dinner in the bistro area, but when the 'Singapore Sling' was 31 dollars and beer 20, we decided against it. We did end up having two drinks, so that was an easy way to get rid of 100 bucks! I enjoyed the two 'Singapore Slings' though and whilst sitting on the chair didn't really feel any different. Wouldn't have needed to have three though! And....you can't go to Singapore, without having a 'Singapore Sling' at the Raffles Hotel. That's why they charge 31 dollars! They are free when you fly Singapore Airlines.

The Singapore leg of our holiday is nearly over! To finish our stay we walked down to the 'Suntec City' area. There is a roundabout in the centre of five towers. The towers depict the fingers and thumb of a hand and in the centre of the roundabout is the palm of the hand. Every evening there is a light show. We had a meal in the food hall and I had a 'Purist' juice to wash down the rather spicy sauce I had placed on my rice. I couldn't resist the 'Purist' drink after the two alcoholic ones I had enjoyed earlier! The drink was made by placing, carrot, ginger and apple in the juicer. It was delicious.

The light show was very tame after what we had seen the night before. It was another very warm evening and it filled in the evening for us. Only thing left to do was go back to the hotel and get those cases packed for the last time!

Have to agree that the bus system in Singapore is wonderful , certainly gives one an opportunity to check out places, definitely worth while buying the passes.
Thank you once again Peter and Pam for sharing your holiday, we loved it and commend you on your dedication. Welcome home.
