An early start...Dublin...then London

London, England, United Kingdom
Our dear! It was an early rise this morning. The alarms on our phones were set for 4.45am. Bags were outside the door by 5.15am, a breakfast of cereal and toast was provided at 5.30 and we hit the road for Dublin Airport at 6.00am. We needed to arrive by 8.00am to ensure those with an early flight, got there in time. We had plenty of time to find our way from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1, as our flight to Heathrow didn't depart until 11.40am. We spent a couple of hours with Dan and Cathy from Canada and Sylvia and Kim, who were also from Canada. We have become friendly with Cathy and Dan and have enjoyed their company very much. Sylvia and Kim were the two ladies we dined with at the Italian Restaurant in Killarney, and they have also been great company.

The flight to Heathrow from Dublin, was less than an hour, but by the time the plane queues for the runway, and because the plane may have to circle at Heathrow, they do say it is an hour and a half flight. I had a window seat on this flight and was able to see that off the coast of England, there were large wind turbines in the ocean. The manufacture and maintenance of the wind turbines has become a huge industry, for the former ship building company in Belfast.

We caught the airport shuttle bus to the Ibis Hotel on Bath Road for 5 pound each. We have got a voucher to stay at the Grosvenor Hotel, but we hadn't put enough thought into that booking. It was quite unnecessary, and probably would have been stressful to catch a train and lug cases in and out of London. So we booked a room close to Heathrow online. By the time we had settled into our room, it was close to 2.30pm. So a late lunch of tomato and basil soup satisfied the pallet! Then we bombed out for the rest of the afternoon.

We had a room with a window that looked out over the airport. We couldn't hear the planes, but we could see them coming in to land. Late yesterday afternoon, Peter timed them. Every 90 seconds a plane was landing at Heathrow. We were spotting them coming through the small patch of cloud. Sometimes you could see four in a row! Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world.

We had a nice sirloin steak at the hotel for dinner and made a couple of phone calls to relatives. Ready now for the flight to Singapore tomorrow.
