From camel land to schnitzel central

Vienna, Vienna, Austria
After a brisk 20min walk to the other end of Doha airport we made it to our gate thinking we were just within time, then sat and waited while the other business class passengers (who happened to have been sitting behind us in the lounge) casually sauntered up with the arrogance of people who know that the plane will wait for them. A scene from The Wedding Singer sprang to mind... the one where Billy Idol says "... Because we pretty much let out first class passengers do whatever they like".

It's true too, they're definitely not as strict about having your seat fully upright and other things like that in business class as they are in economy . Plus it's so nice to have a meal on real plates with real cutlery & a tablecloth! They also keep coming around "Is there anything else I can get for you? Surely you'd like another drink or maybe a little snack?" Bit different to economy!

I managed to have a bit more of a sleep on the way to Vienna which was good, just waking in time to eat (yet more) food, this time some yummy cakes from Ladurees before it was time to start our descent. Speaking of, I think Bev is a little excited as she has spent the last 30minutes with her face glued to the window :)

In Vienna now. So nice to have showers and feel more human again! After unpacking a little we sussed out the local train stop, bought our week long tickets and were off into town to have a look around. Our apartment is only 4 stops out so pretty quick to get into the centre.

Today we walked Bev's legs off but she did very well. We started out around the main square of Stephanplatz and immediately were accosted by one of the omnipresent concert hawkers . Although there are about 400 of them, they're actually a bit cool as they're dressed up in "Mozart' type outfits with brocade coats, tri hats and stockings. The guy talking to us was quite funny and even tried to run off with Bev for a bit haha. His spiel worked and we bought tickets for a show tonight - I hope we won't be too tired.

After this we had a stroll down Kurfurstendam (the main shopping boulevard) then back up a different street and ended up near the Horses. Vienna is gorgeous, but I must admit it's not quite so beautiful as at Christmas time when there are lights and markets everywhere.

Tried to have schnitzel for dinner tonight but Figmueller had a line out the door. Sadly had Maccas (the horror) for our first dinner in Vienna. A BIG change to our fine dining on the plane haha but by then this was the only thing we could eat quickly and make it back to the concert in time.

The concert was really good. It was run by the same company as the one we went to in 2012, but in a different location. Ironically this venue was directly cross the road from the hotel we stayed at last time!

We enjoyed the mix of orchestra, opera and ballet but both Jeff & I were fading a bit by this time. Meanwhile Bev was wide awake during it! Trained home after this. All pretty shattered by the time we crawled into our beds near midnight. Goodnight Captain Mozart.
