The Greyhound Bus picked us up around noon and we drove to Hervey Bay, another beach town and gateway to Fraser Island's west coast. After a 3 hour wait I got on another bus which would take me all along Capricorn Coast to Airlie Beach. A 15-hour overnight ride! The good news is I won't have to pay for a hostel and save time. But that's about the only good thing about overnight travels. Along the way we stopped in tiny Town of 1770. The funny name comes from its historical significance as the place of Captain Cook's first landing in Queensland, which is why this stretch also calls itself 'Discovery Coast'. The full moon actually made the ride quite interesting as the light gave the bushlands a dreamlike atmosphere. Not a bad trade-off for not being able to sleep ;)
At 7 in the morning we finally arrived in Airlie Beach . Yeah! :)

Der Greyhound Bus sammelte uns Mittag ein und fuhr uns nach Hervey Bay, ein Strandort weiter noerdlich und Ausgangspunkt fuer Exkursionen zu Fraser Island's Westkueste. Nach 3 Stunden Wartezeit stieg ich in den naechsten Bus, der mich entlang der Capricorn Coast bis nach Airlie Beach bringen sollte. Eine 15-Stunden Nachtfahrt! Die gute Nachricht ist, dass ich diese Nacht kein Hostel brauche und Zeit spare. Aber das ist dann auch das Einzige was gut ist an einer Nachtfahrt im Bus... ;)
Unterwegs hielten wir in dem kleinen Ort Town of 1770. Der komische Name ruehrt von seiner historischen Bedeutung als Kapitaen Cook's erstem Landungspunkt in Queensland. Weswegen der Kuestenstreifen auch 'Discovery Coast' genannt wird. Der Vollmond machte die Fahrt dann doch ganz interessant, als sein Schein das Buschland in eine Art Traumlandschaft verwandelte. Kein schlechter Ausgleich fuer den entgangenen Schlaf ;)
Um 7 Uhr morgens erreichten wir endlich Airlie Beach. Yeah! :)
