We did go back to Boccadasse this evening and enjoyed
another delicious Italian meal sitting on the balcony of the Palanegra Restaurant
looking back over the numerous beached fishing skiffs to the village, and down
the beautiful coast towards La Spezia. We arrived at 7:30 pm, early by Italian
standards and we were one of the first guests. We then watched during dinner as
the restaurant progressively filled and the noise level of happy voices also
increased. It was so good to feel part of it.
Sunset was at 9:12 pm and the soft light playing on the
bright colours of the village buildings was a delight to see. A number of
locals positioned themselves just below us on the rocks beside the ocean watching
the sunset adding to the idyllic scene.
The restaurant had an excellent wine list, and we were
delighted to see it had a Montepulciano Sangiovese, one of our favourite wines.
Being in such an agreeable location we felt the only way our experience could
be in any way improved was through the addition of an excellent wine. So, we splurged and purchased a whole bottle, recognising
by doing so our ability to negotiate our way back to the hotel maybe somewhat
inhibited. Actually, with just a little
bit of language difficulty, I was able to talk to a taxi company and arrange a
simple transfer back to our hotel after a truly magic night.
