North Caucasus with MIR & Kaliningrad

Last year when I was searching out a Trans-Siberian RR tour, I came across this trip with MIR, a Seattle-based company, to the North Caucasus. After reading Pushkin, Lermontov and Tolstoy, I always had an image of these mountains. There were places in Abkhazia that fit that image, but this trip provided a huge variety of other scenes as well. I found the capital cities to be bigger and much more modern than I had expected. The peoples of the Caucasus were friendly and welcoming and always seemed pleased to see Americans in their lands. After my 3-week Caucasus tour from Black Sea to Caspian Sea, I flew to Kaliningrad to see what I could see.
