ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the
1930's 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's !!
First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they
carried us.
They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored
lead-based paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we
rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took
hitchhiking.
As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.
We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE
actually died from this.
We ate white bread and real butter, but
we weren't overweight because
WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back
when the streetlights came on.
No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down
the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the
bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no
99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell
phones, no personal computers, no Internet or Internet chat rooms.........
WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no
lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
made up games with sticks and tennis balls and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes.
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang
the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!
This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers
and inventors ever!
The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned
HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!
And YOU are one of them! CONGRATULATIONS!
You might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as
kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.
and while you are at it, forward it, cut and paste it and sent it to your kids so they will know how brave their parents were.
Kind of makes you want to run through the house with scissors, doesn't it?!

hey hey to you all....i know most of you have received an email just like the one above but if your like me you love it more each time you receive it...when you really sit and think about it you realise how much the world really has lazily GONE MAD...
i guess I can think and feel it more being here in China where EVERYONE is responsible for themselves...there are big holes in the ground EVERYWHERE, the man holes are on the road...with no cover mind you...try riding in the dark! Cables and cords are everywhere on the ground and in the air, at head height! No one uses blinkers or traffic lights, if a kids fat, he's even called fat by his teachers...their reasoning when I tell them what would happen to them in Aus if they said it...their reasoning is, if a girl is beautiful shes called beautiful, if she is dark skinned (as some are down in the south of china) they are called dark skinned, if someone is fat, they are fat!
Funnily enough, it really is true...in Aus we live so far from the truth in our daily lives, we take NO responsibility for our actions...the other funny thing is, no one here gets sick from eating at the market places etc...pitty the stupid person who actually does eat at the place where NO ONE ELSE IS EATING...HELLO, there is a reason 50,000 people are eating over here and no one is eating there....they will get sick and at home take them to court for making them sick...no one falls down man holes with no covers here, no one gets hit at the traffic lights that one one takes notice of, and no one says they are bored....life has strangely done a U-Turn and made me aware of each step I take and each meter I ride...funnily enough I feel so much more awake than I have in years.
For those of you as YOUNG as me and who grew up in the HAPPY years...sit and think what the hell it would be like growing up now...kids are fat, kids are lazyily spoilt, grown ups are wondering what the hell is going on around them and when they will do the wrong thing and be taken to court by another greedy grown up....
I sit and watch kids and teenagers make up their own games like we used to, then i go to the big cities and watch them sit in net cafes all day and night...tis a big difference..living here is like it was 25 or so years ago in my little town in Victoria..no one has play stations and barely anyone has computers at home. Kids run around without being watched till all hours, they can ride from here to there without worry...
after reading it again I went for a walk and to the market place and sat and watched everything around me...has OUR society really changed for the better...HHHHhhhmmm, my answer is not at all..is an overweight child FAT or should we have to call them handsomely big boned to stay out of court!!! I know the cigarette that I just put out can give me cancer, so should I have the right to take the company to court and plead that I am a person who is so stupid and incapable of ones own thoughts that I really had no idea that smoking can harm me...I dunno, the longer I am here the more I really begin NOT to understand what is going on back at home.
Liability...what is it really today....should I be able to dive into a river without testing it first? Ofcourse I shouldn't...how stupid is the person who dives into a river without testing it first. Gee, thanks for a quick 20 million just because I am a thoughtless person whos too stupid to think for themselves. Should we be made to have signs every few feet on river banks just to stop councils being taken to court. Course we shouldn't. I remember my parents telling me to CHECK the river before going in and i'd do it so I didn't get hurt.
Dunno peoples, we are in strange times..do we really believe that if we go horse riding there is no chance that we could fall off because the owner has COMPLETE control over the horse and every action it takes. Ofcourse we can fall off, but gee, if I do I want a coupla mil because I take no responsibility what so ever because I was too stupid to think about it before hand....
for those younger than myself who read it...I apologise for the world you live in...ofcourse it's livable but with so many restrictions, i dunno, I'd rather have been a child when I was....needless to say though...I still love it no matter what....lifes pretty much what you make it in what ever time you are in. I'm gonna go for a walk now and I'm gonna cross the lights that no one takes notice of and go to the market place for another beer and eat BBQ and continue comparing, but the entire time, I'm, me, myself is gonna BECAREFUL....
so, big 2005 and the world we live in smiles to ya all
PS: for those who wanna write back as say...ofcouse there are complete bastards out there who should be taken to court cause they are blaa blaa...my answer is, you are right, I've worked in law for 15 years...BUT, many cases are pure greed and complete, COMPLETE stupidity on behalf of an individual who takes no time to think for themselves...these are the ones I can't understand, no matter how hard I try, I just can't..oh, and don't get me started on the half drunk guy who was hanging by his knees on monkey bars and fell and hurt himself and took the coucil to court for them not having rubber matting beneath him...infact, don't get me started at all on whats happening to childrens playgrounds at home...are we really that bad??????
