Kala Nera, Thessaly, Greece
EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS!
A nice trendy Restaurant I spotted at Kala Nera that I highly recommend is IBISKOS . It is located in a unique location on the main coastal road next to the hotel Enalion. Guests from this hotel have their breakfasts here each morning. AMBIENCE: It is cool and nice here and it is pleasant to sit and have a snack, a proper meal or a drink and watch the people go by enjoying their holidays at this beautiful touristy village.
IBISKOS also functions as a Café bar and it extends across the road to the beach with the deck chairs and umbrellas. It is usually crowded out here during the summer months, and customers have the beach facilities for free as long as they pay for a snack or coffee.
Cuisine: Mediterranean and local cuisine presented with an artistic flair of nouvelle cuisine. Fresh spices are used extensively to bring out the natural flavor of the organic vegetables that are used here and they come from the Organic gardens "Pelia Gea" the owner of which is Mr. Costantinos Grammenos . I am now assured of the quality of the ingredients used in the kitchen because I was urged by the owner of the restaurant to visit the gardens next door, and I did.
SERVICE: Impeccable, friendly and professional.
OUR LUNCH: We had an amazing mixed freshly cut and flavoursome salad for a starter for only €6.50. It was a mixture of spinach, soft white cheese (anthotiro) red peppers, roasted sesame, virgin olive oil, honey and balsamic dressing.
A “Brousketa” with fresh organic tomato, slices of organic olives marinated with garlic and feta cheese on top of roasted bread followed. This costs €4.50 and I believe the price is reasonable. Every bite was yummy!
MAIN DISH: It cost us €11.00 and it was a Grilled Salmon filet placed on top of sauti spinach with zulien vegetables marinated in orange sauce. It was accompanied by 'basmati' rice. Cooked to perfection, tender and delicious. -A marvel in taste and presentation.
We accompanied our meal with draught beer for €2.50 per glass.
DESSERT: Finally we had small pieces of different kinds of seasonal fruit and 2 shots of liqueur. Besides the nice presentation the smell, taste and colour of the fruit was unbeatable.
We had a cheesecake for €3.50, and a tiramisu with chocolate syrup for €3.50.
THE MENU: Starters are between €3.50 and €6.50. Salads start from €5.50 with the special salad of the restaurant is at €8.50. Pasta dishes rank from €6.50 the cheapest ‘karbonara’ and the most expensive one is at €10.00 –Pasta with salmon, champagne, mushroom risotto and fresh cream cheese.
All in all we ate enough and enjoyed it to the last bite.
It honestly exceeded our expectations.
We would definitely be back. It is not expensive compared to other restaurants in the area and the quality is top.
Keep the good work up guys!
