We spent 4 days in the South of Spain but this entry is about Valencia in particular because we are going back to Madrid, Granada and Seville later on our way to catch the ferry to Morocco so will write about those places then . 

Valencia is Spain´s third largest city, and is very beautiful and prosperous looking. We were stunned by the amount of marble everywhere. In the city centre the pavements are all marble and not just laid normally but with intricate designs. The sort of tiling that would be in a very expensive bathroom in Australia.

Originally Valencia had a river running through the city but it was diverted around the city and the reclaimed river bed was turned into recreation areas. It is strange going over a river bridge and looking below to children playing soccer instead of flowing water.

Valencia´s major claim to fame is that they have the only Vatican recognized Holy Grail in the main cathedral. Surprisingly it was actually free to go and see it. (Guided English tour cost 3 Euro).

We enjoyed getting on a local bus and going to the beach, a 30 minute ride from the city centre. We found a type of sand which was quite nice after the rocky beaches we have had in our recent forays to the beach. The look of the beach was quite strange and then we realized it looked like they ploughed the beach to make it softer! The weather was nice and we enjoyed a bit of soaking up the sun.
