Port Isaac, United Kingdom
Friday- I am a big "Doc Martin" TV show fan, so I visited Port Isaac where it is filmed. Loads of fun. The pharmacy is a candy store when not in the film. I'm not the only fan-- there were many tourists there. I met my first American on the bus. Male, about my age, had spent 4 days in Port Isaac. On the way I saw people surfing. Today at the bus stop there was a family from London with all their surfing gear headed to the beach south of Tintagel. I was resting in my room and missed the full sunset.

Saturday- It was bound to happen--- rain in England . It was misting and I decided to take a short walk up the road for some last photos of Tintagel Castle. Mistake. It really started to rain. My pants were soaked and I had to change. Saw some cute dogs dressed for the rainy weather. I was able to tour The Old Post Office before my bus to Bodmin Parkway. I dried up briefly at the Wadebridge library along the way (1 hour layover). Nice library about the size of Lakewood, but no restroom or wi-fi. No restroom seems to be fairly common. Usually there are good public restrooms in town with these Uni-Wash all in on sinks/dryers.

The Air B&B in Lostwithiel is very nice and my room is on the ground floor. Yea! The 16th Century Globe Inn was recommended for supper. I was hoping to eat at 5:00 as I hadn't had lunch, but they didn't start serving til 6:30. I made a reservation and am glad that I did. Yum- Salmon, sauce, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, Brussels sprouts. The 12th Century bridge over the Fowey river is still used.

Daughter Laura wondered if there are any books that take place where I am travelling. Yes... that is why I am here. (Also researching my ancestors in Devonshire.) As a teen I loved books by Daphne DuMaurier. Tomorrow I am headed to Fowey where she lived. Monday I will spend a night at Jamaica Inn (the title of one of DuMaurier's books). After that I am headed to the Cotswolds-- books by G.M. Malliet and M.C.Beaton plus many more. Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles took place in Dartmoor.

Famous first line of "Rebecca" by DuMaurier- "Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again."

As a big fan, I was fascinated. The seagulls even sound like on the show! I assume the Large truck was a prop--yes?

Hi Pam, Oh my God! I really envy you. I am a huge Doc Martin fan, and even watch re-reruns when I can. I would love to visit Cornwall. We visited England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and France on a cruise of the British Isles, but never got to Cornwall. Plus, I am also a fan of Daphne DuMaurier. I can even remember some of the opening lines of one of her books I read my first year in college - Mandalay. It started something like "I think that I shall never see .... like the road to Mandalay. I'll have to re-read it again sometime. I know the book impressed me very much. Joan
