                                                                        ULURU
Sunrise: Pictures of the sun coming up next to Uluru.

Mala Guided Ranger Walk -- 8:00--Ranger Steve went into a great deal of detail about the beliefs and ancient stories of the Anangu. He told the story of the Mala (rufous hare-wallaby) people, and described the history and traditions associated with Uluru, including traditional Anagu life and culture, rock art, and park management. Amazing walking along the base and looking up at this expansive rock face of sandstone rising up to 348 meters above the red desert sand. Started out with about 60 people in the group; lots of people left especially since our guide talked for about three hours. When he finished, we walked to the water hole and took pictures on the way back. Too bad there are always bus loads of people. This is a beautiful area along the base.

Drove around the rest of the base where up close you see all the holes, gashes, ribs, valleys, and caves in the rock. To Anangu, these features are from stories, known as Tjukurpa, related to the journeys and actions of ancestral beings across the landscape.

KATA TJUTA
Great view for our picnic lunch.
Valley of Winds Walk at noon was pretty hot especially since most of it is in the sun. Nice desert views at Karu Lookout.

Too hot to do any more walking this afternoon.
Back to hotel for a rest.

April 24:  Time to Leave
Breakfast buffet at hotel.  The chef made the best omelets ever!
Checked out and enjoyed the lovely grounds until it was time to go to the airport.
During the stay here, saw little lizards but no Thorny Devils and no animals.
Lots of birds around the resort. Love the head plumage on the Spinifex Pigeons.
LAST DAY in Australia  -- Can't believe it's time to leave.
Saw a great deal, met so many wonderful people, and thoroughly enjoyed our experiences in this very large, diverse country!
