Wokas Lake Campsite, British Columbia, Canada
Wokas Lake – July 19 – 22, 2021
A new lake to discover
As Provincial parks are all booked out and we know a lot of them – Gine was looking into new adventures one of them are the forestry sites and another we found are the campsites from Mosaic forestry camping. And so we booked a site at Wokas lake.
After work we packed up and left – Paul was a bit concerned regarding he Transmission – as we wondered if it is because we are overloaded: we discovered that as per scale we weigh 4390 kg and the max weight is only 3990 kg – so what makes it so heavy??? The ultra light camper? Us? So this will be something we need to look into
Once pass Campbell River on Hwy 28 we turn off on a forestry road and discovered that we were driving by an area where they are actively logging, and after a bit we come to a gate: we do have the code to go in – but it was not locked. Through we soon arrive at the campground.
Camping between the lakes
We are on the lower part of the campground with 7 sites all along the channel which connects Wokas lake to the Upper Quinsamen lake. From the boat ramp is a beautiful view down the lake. We set up have coffee – get the paddle boards out and pumped up, then check out site # 1 which is empty for tonight – and from there is a nice view on Wokas lake – you can see the clouds in the water
Supper spiced with pine needle spice
Once it was time for supper, we discover we don’t have the metal sticks for the schischkebbs, so it will be a stirfry, sitting down to some sunshine and as we want to enjoy supper a wind comes up and pine needles rain down from above onto our plates, so the first ones we picked up, but as the wind increased the pine needle spice increased, so we went inside where it was easier to pick out the needles. After Supper we took our chairs and were sitting down at the lake in the sunshine until we felt to hot for it
Good morning sun & clouds
Waking up we saw some blue sky and sunshine – not on our site but on the road and that is where our chairs went. We did put a leash on Mandy as there were several squirrels around and we were worried that she starts chasing them – she did come out of the camper once – but afterwards she was happy sitting and looking outside. Such a wonderful morning means we have a great Canadian breakfast
Pauls new Paddleboard on Upper Quinsamen Lake
Time for the lake? As we head with our paddleboards to the boatramp so we can spend the day in the sunshine and on the lake a cloud blocks the sun – but there is a lot of blue sky and so we head out with the paddle board onto the Upper Quinsamen Lake…. Except the sun never really made it out from behind the clouds. As we paddle down the lake we can see more and more mountains peaking out which is really cool – once we stop at the shoreline and then we are back on the mirror like lake. On the left side we had a nice view on the Argonaut mine. It is also super relaxing only sitting on the boards and listen to the quite nature and seeing the beautiful scenery. As we head back more and more clouds are coming. We found another spot with beautiful views and a nice beach and then headed back to some relaxing and coffee.
Through the narrows to Wokas Lake
Back on the boards we paddle through the channel and then onto Wokas lake which starts out supper shallow with a lot of plants growing and around the corner where is the dock from the other part of the campsite. Very convenient there is a ladder where we can get off the boards and attach them too and check out this part of the site (ok we are on the better part). On the way back we shortcut and then nearly get stuck because it is so shallow.
A sunny afternoon would have been nice
As the clouds took over most of the sky we stayed for the rest of the afternoon on our campsite with Mandy sitting and looking out but not venturing more than a paw out of the door. So we did a lot of reading, and after supper spend most of the evening inside where it was warmer and wind free. I think we are a bit chicken đŸ˜Š
Good Morning to a quicky sunshine
We woke and looking outside it was still nice and sunny – perfect maybe we get a great day. Coffee and breakfast in the sun and we couldn’t believe it: the grey clouds came again – ok it didn’t rain and there were always blue spots in the sky (where the sun not was). That means what should we do?
Checking out Wellington Point campsites
Only 3 km away we decided to check out this campsites: rule #1 know the code for your locked gate – as it was closed. And then the next campground was also gated – we tried and see there it’s the same code. We still parked on the wide road as we didn’t know on how tight the campsite was. Most of the sites have some view, but not all of them have a quick beach access – it’s kind of a hit and miss here. From the boat ramp we had a nice view on the lake – overall I think I liked our site better. But the bathrooms were cleaner and had a map of the lake inside.
Should we stay or should we go???
Back we wondered should we stay and have a lazy day with lots of reading and maybe some paddle boarding weather depending – or should we go home and then Paul can fool around with his cars – I mean we will go camping again next week… So we decided to go. As we pack up and drove out the sun peaked out, but it was only a short peak between the clouds and it also started to rain a bit. But we were on a mission:
A stop at the junkyard
We love junkyards – or let’s say Paul loves them and so we stopped so Paul could get off moldings for the old Dodge to spice it up a bit. And an hour later we went south to sunny Comox: back for a late 4 pm coffee and:
Coming home early means business
As we came within cell phone reception Gine said: Paul there is someone else who would like to look at the motorhome and so we texted that we will call as soon as we are back. Barely in the house not even unpacked Paul called and 15 Min later the couple was here and looked and looked and not much later we had a deal. Better than I ever expected. The next hour Gine started to unload (we had so much crap in there) until we got the first cheque as a down payment. I guess we have to celebrate with a late supper Pizza.
Good thing we had the extra day at home
Because Gine was busy to get all empty and clean inside and Paul on the outside. And then the next plan starts as we decided to get a bigger truck with a better payload and Paul already found one in Vancouver: he talked with the guy and checked all out and tomorrow he will fly to Vancouver to get our new Truck hopefully: one which will be then made ready for our newer camper…. We will be soon back in business.
