Waterfalls and Ocean
Beate loves walking
along the ocean and they do love waterfalls so on the way home from camping as
well as the next days we always will visit a waterfall and go to the ocean to
walk along – sit near it and only enjoy it.
Near the Elk Portal
Today our first stop
was at the Elk Portal – the Entrance to the Strathcona Park – only some of our Provincial
Parks have such an amazing Entrance sign – but then the Strathcona park was the
first Provincial Park in BC. We take a picture and enjoy the last views.
Elk River Falls
We were here before
but it is always great to see – and in the Parking lot we can already see that
we are not alone – as there is also an Austrian truck/camper here. A short walk
over and we are on the way down to the old viewing platform and then to the
edge of the river before heading over the Suspension bridge – yes we need to
take a picture on the bridge!!!!
Oyster River Shoreline
Park
And the next stop on
the way home is on the ocean we stop at the Oyster Bay Shoreline Park and walk
over the driftwood down to the ocean. And I also never get tired of seeing it and
the beauty of it. Back home – unloading and relaxing in the sunshine and in the
backyard.
A late start to the
Trent River Falls
Today we will go
without Paul – so we are able to talk a lot in German, ok so when we wanted to leave there were some deer - no question it is time to take a picture - I may should mention that Beate named all our deer so we have Elsie, Carl...
And again we start with a
waterfall – one of Gine’s favourites – a short walk but steep to some cute
little falls. Martin and Beate couldn’t believe it that we had to cross the 4-lane
highway to get to them. And I think they also were a bit astonished on how
steep down it goes. As per Martin we are doing a “Klettersteig” the German word
describing a Via Ferrata to the falls. Down there we look up the walls of the
Gorge and the big rocks – walk over to relax on a huge fallen tree and Beate is
brave enough to go in the water… as we were the only once here when we arrived
that was not the case later as more and more and more people came and one of
them was another couple from Germany. Ok and now all back up again.
Along the Comox Bay:
Union Bay & Royston shoreline
On the way back we
stopped in Union Bay to have a wonderful view over towards Denman Island and
the farm – the crystal clear water and then headed to the Royston seawalk –
found a perfect little picnic table to sit down and watch the tide going down and
we could talk with a perfect view….
It’s Pizza night!!!
After all that hard work
we decided that they have to have a Real Canadian Pizza and how can it be more
Canadian then to have an Islander Pizza – we ordered way to much – guess tomorrow
is Pizza night again!!!! Now big question which Pizza is better German or
Canadian????
Wild life viewing
ok so we are a bit late today - when we wanted to get into the car we saw deer - and named them: so I think today it was Elsie and Karl.... at least we had to stop and then it was picture taking time of our local deer.
Triple Falls
Paul said you go alone
and enjoy another day of talking in German – and yes we are going to waterfalls
again – Paul said we should go to the Triple Falls as they were so nice and
since it is only a 300 m walk no big deal we will stop (and get a bit dust on
the truck) – only there is not that much water as we remembered so there is not
more triple it is only double!!! A cute little spot but we didn’t stay for long….
A cold walk in the
Englishman River Falls
Our next stop were the
Englishman River Falls – they are more impressive on how they go down into the
narrow gorge. We did continue on a bit along the river and then then sit at the
waters edge – shoes off – watershoes on and then into the water (ok girls only)
– a bit slippery – but we did walk along in the freezing cold water around the
bend – Beate said she could walk along here forever – Riverbed walking is so
much fun.
A Swim at Parksville
Beaches
And from here we head
yes to the ocean and the beach: this time to the Parksville community Park and
the sandy beaches – ok the not so great part was that the tide is in and you
can’t see the endless sandy beach – the good part is, the water is here and we
can go for a swim. Beate was enthusiastic – I think it was still a bit cool!!!
But it was still a lot of fun to swim – first time this year in the ocean!!! Afterwards
getting dry on the sandy shores….
And it is time to say
Good bye
Can you believe it –
the time is already over, and today they will fly to Calgary for some mountain
time around Banff and Kananaskis. We drive to the airport – meet there Michelle
and Tim who are on the same flight on their way to a months around Eastern Canada
– and yes not it is Time to say Good bye – and hopefully to see each other
again soon.
