Well another trip is over, and many new places visited (some we don't want to go to again).
We have had some highs and some lows. But generally we have had fun. The trusty Trailblazer amassed 5503 km along the way, did two hot laps of Mt Panorama (ha ha) but she did come home a bit bruised.
We revisited some places that we hadn't visited in a long time like Canberra, Lakes Entrance, Noosa. We were surprised and disappointed that the lovely quaint place of Noosa and the Sunshine Coast had grown up. Linda was amazed at how big Lakes Entrance is now, I had never been. Canberra I used to like, but now it is a nightmare to get around.
We also visited a lot of parts uncharted by us.
We visited many a vineyard some are older established places, but most are quaint boutique style. We chose this approach as most big companies we can buy their wine in Tassie and it is always the same. Where as the smaller boutique ones and not easily available in Tassie and their is a passion in the process with love in each bottle. This was evident when talking with Donna at Tinklers and Simon at Saddlers Creek both in the Hunter Valley. We brought home some great wines. I have had a passion to visit the Hunter Valley and in hindsight should have stayed in Pokolbin right in the heart of the Valley instead of Cessnock
We visited many historical locations the final resting place of Ned Kelly and Ben Hall, along with Kelly's home. The old railway station and crane lift at Rosedale. The Gold mining memorial at Harrietville. The War memorial at Canberra was memorable.
There are also many historical people we have learnt about
Linda even road and elephant albeit a wooden carving
We saw the site of the Brocklesbury Plane Crash (see supplementary page - Page 46), we saw many towns and there autumn colours. We experienced a dinner in a vineyard with a mens choir singing songs
We have seen some incredible social things such as Ettamoogah Pub, the patronage still of today of tourists wanting to get a picture with the Dog and the Tucker Dog in Gundagai. The Big Merino and Big Pineapple and what about the poor example of a Big Prawn. Being caught up in the Big Bash Rally
But probably the biggest was Valerio Ricetti and his Hermit Caves in Griffith
We have ventured into days of old with the Historic townships of Sofala and Hill End. Ned Kelly's house the dredge pump at Lakes Entrance and old railway bridges.
We have seen some glorious sights like Lakes Entrance, Lake George, the trip through from Tea Gardens to Bombah Point, The beaches of Currumbin, Coffs and Byron.
We have also had the scary experience on Mount Hotham on the way to Harrietville when in a total whiteout of fog and couldn't see clearly anything 15 feet in front of us
We have seen some incredible artwork such as the silo art and wall murals. Carved fish, and elephants. The planets trail, then the wacky with the Bikini Tree, and Sgt Camo the geocache. Who should forget the dachshund portrait.
We have stayed the night in a zoo - fantastic, this is something we may look at doing again. We also went to Currumbin Sanctuary
We have caught up with family firstly in Brisbane with grand children Ben, Liam and Ethan (who unfortunately had Covid so we could only see him across a room). Then in Noosa with grandaughter and her partner Abbie and Phil. We caught up with my beautiful nieces Cilla and Tara, along with Les, Josh (this year no Ayrlea) and Darren (Tara's partner).
We caught up with Val Cybergran V and had a special time with her
We started this trip with just "Grumbli" he was our wombat whom we acquired last trip, along the way we suddenly had Rosie a second wombat. The pair of them were always up to mischief. They we a bit of fun.
We have found a some Geocaches and we did find all of the speciality caches we set out to find. The number we felt was good in 344 finds, 25 DNF's 11 TB's and 2 pathtags. We think is a good effort.
But most of all we have had you, your comments have been great we truly did cherish them and they have been an inspiration to us. Thank you for you interest and input.
So for now it is over and until the next time, we will see you somewhere out on the Highway
